A Heuristic Algorithm for Combined Heat and Power System Operation Management

This paper presents a computationally efficient novel heuristic approach for solving the combined heat and power economic dispatch (CHP-ED) problem in residential buildings considering component interconnections. The proposed solution is meant as substitute cutting-edge approaches, such model predictive control, where mixed-integer nonlinear program (MINLP), known to be computationally-intensive, therefore requiring specialized hardware sophisticated solvers, not suited use. algorithm targets simple embedded with limited computation memory and, taking inputs hourly thermal electrical demand estimated from daily load profiles, computes of energy vectors including CHP. main idea have procedure that initially decomposes three vectors’ requests: electrical, thermal, hot water. Then, latter are later dispatched interconnection operational constraints. illustrated using series simulations on pilot nano-cogenerator unit shows around 25–30% savings when compared meta-heuristic genetic approach.
